In honor of memorial day

I wanted to share this project. I got the idea from the lily cotton yarns website. I did not follow the pattern though, I just looked at the picture and came up with my own spin off of the design. I'm really happy with the outcome, but it's too bad I didn't finish in time to hang it up for memorial day. But no big deal, it will definitely be hanging up for flag day, independence day, and possibly displayed on campus for our veteran's day celebration. Patriotic wreath

Afghan squares update

In honor of memorial day I made the next square on my checklist, old' glory. I also went one step further and did a lone star square. Ol glory Lone star flag I also have two more squares to update on because I forgot to. So this first one... Is it knit... Or crocheted? Tunisian knit st square So the obvious answer is the stitches are knit stitches, but the not so obvious answer is they were done on a crochet hook known as a Cro-hook, afghan hook, or Tunisian hook. It is a long crochet where all stitches are put on and then taken off. In the knit stitch technique the work is not turned. This technique is also known as crochenit. Crochenit square This one is known as the Tunisian simple stitch in two colors. When working with two colors the work is turned and then all stitches are slid to the opposite end then taken off with the contrasting color. This stitch can also e some with one color, then turning would not be necessary. Happy crochenit!

Won't you stay for tea?

Today I designed a tea cozy for my target @home teapot. I'm not sure how many cups it holds, it is kind of big. If I had to guess I suppose it would be a 4 cup teapot. Anyway so I made this cozy tonight, it is crocheted but I'm not sure about the written pattern, I think I need to test it out again tomorrow and see If it makes sense. So I'll it's the pattern latter. But here's the pics. Tea cozy view 1 Tea cozy view 2 This picture is of the cozy laying flat on the table. Tea cozy flat

Pomp-a-doodle purse complete!

Tonight I finished the pomp-a-doodle purse I posted about yesterday! I decided to expand the sides rather than sew them together, it's been my experience that sewing the sides together makes the purse too narrow or closed up. Pomp-a-doodle purse

Spiral notebook pen pocket

Today I decided to do something "out of the ordinary." I have a livescribe pen, which is this cool pen that records audio and writing from special paper. I use it for my classes whenever computers are not allowed. So yesterday I forgot my pen but rememberered the notebook. I saw a similar idea on crochet n' more, a book with a crocheted pen holder. So I simply incorporated that idea onto a spiral notebook and added a pocket for my pen. Crochet notebook-pen cozy

Mom square

In honor of mommy day (which I had planned to make this Sunday) I completed a MOM square for my afghan. I really wanted to start (and finish of course!) my mom square on Sunday, but I was already working on the wooden handle tote, and I was tired from our mother's day party after I finished the purse to start on this square, but nonetheless it is complete. This is another pattern you can find on Crochet n' more Mom square

Wooden handle tote

This is a purse I really like. I have made 2 of these so far. I learned after the first one that the sides should be closed part way (not completely like my first one). I used Marti Gras beads this time for the top, where the pattern calls for the twisted cord (which is dumb and next to impossible). Anyway, so here it is, the pattern and my pic. Hook book

Tonight I finished a new design for a crochet hook case. I really like the design I came up with, though the inside cover is a little "plain" in sc, but the outside cover makes up for this. I also reinforced the inside with cardboard, but plastic canvas or any similar sturdy material would work just as well. Hook book inside Hook book outside Inside: Ch 26, sc in each st across, sc in every st until piece measures 12" Outside: ch 27, sc in 2nd st and each st across R2: ch3, turm, sk first 2 st, dc, dc in st just skipped - cross st created, cont across, dc in last st Row2-8:Rep cross st row Row9-14: sc Rows 15-23: cross st Row 24: sc, fasten off Joining the pieces Working through both thicknesses, Sc 42 sts onto bottom longside of the case for hook pocket, ch1 turn R2: working in bl only sc across R3: sc in each st until piece is about half the height of the cover Fold pocket up and sew side seams to inside cover Sew center for binding through both thicknesses (just sew vertical through the covers only) Sew individual pockets for each hk Join yarn in lower right corner, sc around working through both thicknesses, if desired place cardboard or plastic canvas between inside and outside cover for added strength

Rah rah TCU

This is a square I designed based upon Texas Christian University's mascot the horned frog (my alma mater). I actually designed this based upon a graph I made with a horned frog on it. This is my second square made based upon this pattern. I attempted a written form this tie around, though the pattern is still messy, I believe the design is funtional. Anyway you can see a picture of my horned frog below. Horned frog 2 TCU horned frog

More squares!

Today I have been busy with more squares. Since they were somewhat portable and I could carry them with me. So today I completed my final awareness ribbon in pink for breast cancer awareness and I just completed a cute little teddy bear square. But before you rush off to find the pattern, you must be aware that twice a month crochet n' more has a newsletter and they pre-release patterns in their newsletter before they are officially posted to the website and this cute little bear hasn't been released yet. But that doesn't mean you're out of luck just yet. They keep an archive which anyone can sift through looking at the patterns released. Cervical cancer awareness block

Today I finished another awareness square, in turquoise. This one is for cervical/uterine/ovarian awareness. There are a few websites that identify awareness ribbons by color.
